Nursing Home Business Plan

Opportunity

Problem

There is a lack of full-time assisted living facilities available that offer skilled and respectful care to residents. There aren’t enough short-term medically skilled care facilities in Connecticut for patients with disabilities.

Solution

Bright House is a home for 14 full-time residents of assisted living. It offers medically-skilled and self-sustaining care, as well as skilled nursing care for residents who are short-term. Bright House, a beautiful 6-acre property that was the former Wayfield Bed and Breakfast, is located in Middletown, CT. It combines decades of experience and new visions to realize the potential of our family members’ newest years.

Market

The ageing of the Baby Boomers is an important and well-known fact. Many of these people, who were part of the counter-culture in the 60’s and 70’s, are not happy about the choices they have as they age. Fortunately, much like the American Association of Retired Persons (formerly known under the American Association of Retired Persons), elder-care alternatives based on the Eden Care model are being created.

Residents’/Patients’ Needs

Based on years of care for elderly patients, our experience shows that people who are looking for skilled nursing care or assisted living care have many similar needs.

  • To be treated with respect and dignity
  • To actively engage in a social group
  • To be involved in his/her own treatment and living plan
  • To be cared for by skilled, medically-knowledgeable clinicians and caregivers, working as a team

It may seem that our list is in the opposite order of that of many nursing homes. This is not an accident. Unfortunately, many of our older population are treated with the billing systems’ needs in mind and not theirs.

Families’#8217 Needs

The families of those seeking care environments also have their own needs.

  • Be assured of the wellbeing of their loved-ones.
  • It’s a relief from the hard work of caring for family members.
  • The guilt that often overwhelms them when they discover they lack the intellectual, physical or emotional resources to care for their loved ones properly.

Families seeking care must be aware of the fact that there is a big unstated problem. This is the feeling of being a bad spouse or daughter, or son, or daughter who is unable or unwilling to sacrifice her own life to care for a loved family member. Bright House is not here to negate this feeling. However, we are here to assure families that their decision to allow us to take care of a family member is loving, kind, generous.

Competition

There are many choices for families who need nursing home care. From in-hospital rehab centers to for profit chains to specialized treatment for people with Alzheimer’s and AIDS, there are many options. While they offer personalized nursing care, specialized facilities are usually non-profit and can be used for people who have a specific condition that requires intensive medical attention.

Why Us

Bright House promotes dignity and self-worth in all our residents and strives to provide a high quality of life for them as individuals and groups. Bright House encourages residents to make decisions through House Councils. We also give them access to all their homes, as well as the freedom to choose their activities, food preferences, and socialization. Bright House is not just a caregiving facility–it is their home, and their community.
